What is "wall art?" & What is "Fine art photography?"
Pictures. That's the simplest term I, (Cremetti), can think of.
Pictures made primarily by means of photography, are what I'm calling "wall art."
It's a funny thing, in this day and age, we have Giclee printing, inkjet, laser, lightjet, and Lambda. In common, they have at least one thing, the production of images. These images may be advertising, commercial, big business graphics, or they may be a more domestic, classy, thoughtful and mood enhancing display of fine art or, shall we say "wall art"?
Imagine your rooms at home, or perhaps in the office, reception area, or any other area where you, your friends or your clients may pause for a while.These are areas where art speaks most readily. Be it paintings, drawings, photographs or sculptures, art is part of life. It enhances, alters, reflects, questions, cries and laughs. In this context, anything hung on the wall, is what I am calling wall art! It seems straight forward enough, art for the walls, hung on the walls = wall art!
So, what should this wall-art say? Where should it be? How do I choose it?
Naturally, as a photo-artist producing original fine art / wall art images,I have a biased view, but still, some guide lines apply to most photos and wall mounted artworks.
What "they" say about colour. I'm not telling you anything I necessarily believe!
When I see an image, I see colours, shapes, subject. I "read into" abstracts and surreal art, anything my subconscious chooses.
I'm told that colours reflect mood, or even influence it. Perhaps it really is true. Here is a small selection of views, in brief:
Black: Authority and power
White:
Purity and innocence.
Red: Emotionally intense.
Fires the spirit!
The colour of love.
Blue: A popular colour.
The opposite effect to red.
Green: Symbolising nature.
Calming.
Refreshing.
Yellow: Demands attention.
Hightens concentration.
Purple: Royalty.
Luxury.
Wealth and influence.
Brown: Stability.
Honesty.
So, there is a brief rundown of colour according to some psychologists. Convinced? I'm not!
Try reading up on home design sites. They may well tell you something quite different.
If you’re feeling reckless, look at colour correspondences in the new-age literature. Be sure to read all with appropriate discernment!
It's YOUR wall art!
My advice is so personal to me, that it may not help you at all....... I must say though, that everyone knows better.....Everyone!
Perhaps this means that you should ignore them all? Perhaps it does.....
So, look at your home, at your walls where the wall art will be hung. Decide with your partner, or whoever shares the space with you. Imagine that art on your wall. Shut your eyes, see it as clearly as you can.
Perhaps you may redecorate often? Don’t buy an image that you'll feel you need to remove at the next coat of paint!
I sell framed prints, but there is no way that my frames match all tastes. Consider the frame carefully. Perhaps go and see some frames in a quality framers shop.
Much as I love our big Tescoburys and B&Q Lewis stores, I wouldn’t buy art or frames from them! 10,000 other people have the same wall art! Do I want to be the same? NO!
Naturally, I want to sell MY wall art!
I hope you want to buy it.... It's original, different and not expensive. It will be a talking point in every home, (see "about me"). It will be personal.
